Policy on the Use of Generative AI

The MISJ – International Journal of Medical Research and Allied Sciences (MISJ-IJMRAAS) recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing and research. The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI technologies while maintaining the integrity and originality of scholarly work.

1. Permitted Use of Generative AI

Authors may use generative AI tools for limited purposes such as:

  • Language editing and grammar improvement
  • Improving readability and formatting
  • Assisting with literature organization or summarization
  • Generating graphical or illustrative support material with proper disclosure

The use of AI must not compromise the originality, accuracy, or scientific integrity of the manuscript.

2. Disclosure Requirement

Authors must clearly disclose the use of any generative AI tools in the manuscript submission. The disclosure should include:

  • Name of the AI tool or software used
  • Purpose of use
  • Extent of AI assistance

Example statement:

“The authors used generative AI tools for language editing and grammar assistance. All scientific content, interpretations, and conclusions were reviewed and approved by the authors.”

3. Prohibited Uses

Generative AI tools must not be used to:

  • Generate fabricated data, results, or references
  • Produce misleading or manipulated scientific content
  • Create fake images, unethical visual modifications, or falsified figures
  • Replace human authorship or accountability
  • Submit AI-generated content without human verification and oversight

4. Authorship and Accountability

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot:

  • Take responsibility for the content
  • Approve the final manuscript
  • Meet authorship criteria established by ICMJE and COPE

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of all submitted content, including portions assisted by AI.

5. Editorial and Reviewer Use of AI

Editors and reviewers should not upload confidential manuscripts or peer review materials into public AI systems that may compromise confidentiality or data security.

6. Ethical Compliance

All manuscripts using AI assistance must continue to comply with:

  • COPE Guidelines
  • ICMJE Recommendations
  • Journal policies on plagiarism, ethics, and data integrity

Conclusion

MISJ-IJMRAAS encourages the transparent and responsible use of generative AI while ensuring that human authors retain full accountability for the scientific quality, integrity, and authenticity of published research.
