Abstract

Background: Children often have aspirated foreign bodies, which can have major consequences. The history of aspiration by the attendant, clinical symptoms, and, if allowed, a radiograph or CT scan are used to make the diagnosis; nonetheless, bronchoscopy is still the preferred method for ruling out foreign bodies.

Aims of the study: To investigate into the relationship between the clinical results of pediatric patients who come to the local otolaryngology practice in Benghazi and the witness's presentation of an aspirated foreign body.

Methodology: A case series analysis using SPSS version 23 and record review and analysis was conducted on 378 instances.

Results: A history of foreign body aspiration noticed by attendees was reported by 75.9% of the patients. Upon evaluation, 87% of the patients had favorable physical findings. During bronchoscopy, foreign bodies were discovered in 87.4% of patients, and 97% of patients had the foreign bodies successfully removed.

Conclusion: A safe and efficient method for treating children who have aspirated foreign bodies is rigid bronchoscopy. Physical findings and the history of observed aspiration are significant indicators for locating the foreign body.

Keywords: Foreign body aspiration, bronchoscopy.
